Chemistry & Life Sciences Expert
For scientists who know where a confident answer misreads the data, the mechanism or the method.
What you would do
- Write questions on mechanisms, stoichiometry and experiments, such as predicting the major product of a reaction, with reference answers.
- Find the flawed conclusion in model answers about lab results, such as a missing control or a confounded comparison.
- Write data-interpretation tasks from synthetic results, such as a gel, a dose-response curve or a sequencing summary.
- Check lab calculations and protocols in model answers, such as a dilution series or a primer design.
- Write rubrics that check units, conditions and the reasoning behind each step.
What we look for
The minimum
- You study at or graduated from a college or university in chemistry, biology or a related field.
- Lab, computational or research work you did yourself and can describe in detail, including what could have gone wrong.
- You can read a methods section and say what the experiment can and cannot show.
- Care with units, concentrations and controls.
Ideal
- A degree in chemistry, biology or a related field; a master’s or PhD is even better.
- Research or industry work, especially at an AI lab or AI company.
- Computational skill, such as bioinformatics pipelines, cheminformatics or data analysis in Python or R.
- Publications, patents or methods others use.
How the work runs
- Task size
- Tasks take about 30 minutes to 5 hours. Each one shows its estimated time and price before you start, and you are paid that price even if it takes you more or less time.
- Pay
- Per task accepted in review: its estimated time times the project’s rate. A task estimated at 2 hours at $110 an hour pays $220. Accepted tasks are paid within 30 days.
- Hours
- Projects last 1 month to a year. Each sets a weekly minimum, usually about 20 hours of estimated work, and you choose when you work.
- Tools and review
- Your own computer, plus Python, R or common chemistry and sequence tools when a task calls for them. Every task is reviewed against the project’s written quality standard before it is accepted.
